Birkenstock Madrid Sandals

The iconic Madrid is a simple, single strap slide that is the oldest of the Birkenstock models making it both a classic and a favourite. In 1932 Karl Birkenstock created the “Karl Birkenstock System” gaining the approval of podiatrists and doctors. It was three decades later that Birkenstock launched the now iconic single strap Madrid, often called a fitness sandal with a deep and flexible footbed. The positioning of the strap, footbed and buckle are designed to adapt to the foots rolling motion. When the heel rises from the footbed the foot naturally flexes over the ball and the toes contract sharply in a gripping motion. When the heel lowers, the muscles then relax. Each step in the Madrid helps to strengthen the foot and calf muscles as well as stimulating circulation.

It's important to measure your foot accurately to find the right size shoe. To work out the size and width you will require, please follow these steps:

Measure the length of your foot whilst standing on a flat surface with your full weight bearing down, measure the distance from the back of your heel to the tip of your longest toe.
Measure the width of your foot across the broadest point. Compare this measurment to the footbed width measurements shown on the size chart to see if you need a narrow or regular width.

Example: Jackie's foot measures 250mm long and 95mm wide. She looks at her foot length in the below table and finds she will fit comfortably into a size 39 (250mm Footbed Length). At that size, the Regular Width footbed of 97mm will fit her foot perfectly.
